Questions parents ask
How do I teach my child descriptive writing?
Use the five senses. Ask what do I see, hear, smell, taste and feel, and jot one or two describing words for each. Start with a topic sentence that names the place, write one sentence for each sense, add a comparison like as soft as a pillow, and show, do not just tell.
What age is this lesson for?
It is made for children aged 5 to 9 (Kindergarten to Grade 3). The video teaches descriptive writing through a story with songs and memory tricks, then the worksheet game lets them practise it.
Is it free?
Yes. The video, the online worksheet game and the printable PDF with an answer key are all free, with no sign-up.
